Verbesina mameana is a flowering plant found only in Ecuador, specifically in subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. It is currently facing a threat of habitat loss. In the late nineteenth-century, an article was published in local newspapers praising the ornamental value of its foliage. The plant was discovered by Hugo A.C. Poortman in 1883 during his South American explorations, and was named by Édouard André in honor of M. Mame, one of the promoters of the expedition. It grows at an altitude of four to six thousand feet in a temperate climate. The article also mentions that there are other native species of Verbesina, two of which can be found in the Atlantic States and are known as Crownbeard. However, these species are described as being coarse and weedy.
