Symphyotrichum subulatum, also known as eastern annual saltmarsh aster, is an annual plant in the Asteraceae family native to the eastern United States and Gulf Coast. It primarily grows in coastal salt marshes, but can also be found in other areas such as the Ozarks. The plant has a single erect stem with thin green leaves and produces bright yellow disc florets surrounded by white to lavender ray florets. There are several accepted varieties of S. subulatum, with some being classified as separate species. This plant is known for its tolerance to saline soils and is commonly found in areas such as salt marshes, pond margins, and roadsides. It is also used to attract butterflies and native bees.
