Solidago puberula, also known as the downy goldenrod, is a perennial herb native to eastern North America from Nova Scotia and Ontario south to Florida and Louisiana. It has 1-5 puberulent (hairy) stems and leaves that are toothed, tapering at the tip, and puberulent on both sides. The flowering heads number 15–250, in an elongate, paniculiform array, with yellow ray flowers that are 9–16 per head and disc flowers that number 6–15 per head, each up to 3 mm (0.12 in) long. There are two subspecies, subsp. pulverulenta and subsp. puberula, which differ in the number and size of leaves. Additionally, this species is host to the insect induced gall Schizomyia racemicola.
