Sigesbeckia orientalis, commonly known as Indian weed or common St. Paul's wort, is an annual, upright herb or subshrub in the family Asteraceae. It is native to Asia, Africa and Australia, and is widespread in these regions. It has yellow or orange flowers borne in clusters of about 15 sessile flowers per head, and dark brown to black cypsela fruits. It is found growing on river banks and on shallow, stony locations. The species was first formally described in 1753 by Carl Linnaeus, and the specific epithet (orientalis) means "pertaining to the east". It is named after Johann Georg Siegesbeck, an outspoken critic of Linnaeus' new classification of plant sexual systems.
