Senecio verbascifolius, also known as the mullein ragwort, is a perennial plant native to the Western Cape of South Africa. It can grow up to 60 cm tall and has oval or heart-shaped leaves with small teeth along the edges. The plant produces yellow flowers between September and December, which grow in branched clusters. It is a specialist species, found only on sheltered south-facing rocky slopes in the Cape Peninsula and Hottentots Holland Mountains, with a range of 347 km2. Due to its limited range and specialized habitat, it is considered endangered by the South African National Biodiversity Institute. However, the population of approximately 250 individuals appears to be stable and not currently facing any major threats.
