Senecio hispidulus, also known as hill fireweed or rough groundsel, is a flowering plant found in various parts of Australia. It is an erect herb that can grow up to two meters tall and has yellow or pale-yellow flowers. The plant is sparsely to moderately hairy and has lobed leaves. It is found in both the North and South Island of New Zealand, with two distinct components that are geographically separated. S. hispidulus can grow in a variety of habitats, including disturbed areas, forest margins, and coastal sites. It is known to be a strongly invasive species and can easily adapt to its environment. The plant can be controlled through physical methods such as pulling it out or shading it, as it is resistant to some herbicides. S. hispidulus contains pyrrolizidine alkaloids, which can be harmful to humans and animals. It has also shown resistance to herbicides, making it difficult to control.
