Reichardia tingitana, also known as false sowthistle, is a plant species in the Asteraceae family that is mainly found in the Mediterranean and West Asia regions. It has alternate leaves with serrated margins and no stipules on the petiole. This annual plant blooms from March to May and has yellow petals. It is a glycophyte, meaning it can grow in saline soils, and is commonly found in arid deserts, shrub-steppes, and sandy depressions in the Middle East. It has been introduced to countries like France and Australia, where it is considered a minor weed and can be found in urban areas, coastal dunes, and alluvial plains. R. tingitana has also been recorded in Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and eastern Saudi Arabia, where it is known by names such as huzan, mureer, and murar. In the Middle East, it has been used in folk medicine to treat constipation, colic, and inflamed eyes.
