Parthenium incanum, also known as mariola or New Mexico rubber plant, is a plant in the Asteraceae family. It is native to North America, specifically the Southwestern United States and parts of Mexico. This plant can be found in desert grasslands, dry gravel slopes, and plains. It grows to be about 1.5-3 feet in height and width, with pubescent grayish-white foliage and small white flower clusters that bloom from July to October. The Jicarilla Apache tribe used this plant as a traditional medicinal remedy, boiling the leaves and rubbing the solution on pregnant women's abdomens for relief. Parthenium incanum is also cultivated as an ornamental plant in drought tolerant, native plant, and wildlife gardens.
