Packera ganderi, also known as Gander's ragwort, is a rare flowering plant found in southern California. It is only found in a few locations in San Diego and Riverside Counties and there are approximately 4000 plants in existence. This number varies due to the plant becoming more abundant after wildfires in its native chaparral habitat. The plant has a single erect stem that can reach up to 50-80 centimeters in height and is mostly green and hairy with some purple areas. Its leaves are round or oval with toothed edges and can grow up to a few centimeters long. The plant produces up to 6 or 8 flower heads, each containing golden yellow disc florets and orange ray florets. Packera ganderi is a unique and rare species that is adapted to the fire-prone environment of California's chaparral.
