Helichrysum pumilum, also known as dwarf everlasting, is a unique rosette herb from the Asteraceae family that is native to Tasmania. It is most commonly found in the West and Southwest regions of the island. The plant is characterized by its densely matted flower stalk and daisy-like flower head with pink or white bracts. It grows up to 10 cm tall and has linear to spathulate leaves that form a rosette at the base of the plant. The flowers bloom in summer, between December and February. Helichrysum pumilum was first described by Joseph Dalton Hooker and later recognized as a distinct variant by A.M Buchanan. It is mostly found in low nutrient, peaty soils and is an important food source for the critically endangered Orange-bellied parrot.
