Eupatorium leucolepis, also known as justiceweed or white-bracted thoroughwort, is a perennial plant found in the eastern coastal United States. It can be found from New York to eastern Texas, with some populations in Kentucky and West Virginia. In the past, Eupatorium paludicola and Eupatorium novae-angliae were classified as varieties of E. leucolepis, but recent research has shown that they are distinct species. E. paludicola is found in North and South Carolina and is a diploid plant, while E. novae-angliae is a hybrid-derived allopolyploid found in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. It is considered a separate species due to its ability to self-sustain, rather than relying on both parents for survival.
