Eucephalus vialis, also known as wayside aster, is a rare flowering plant native to southwestern Oregon and northwestern California. It is a perennial herb that spreads through rhizomes and can grow up to 1.2 meters tall. The plant has lance-shaped leaves covered in glandular hairs and produces small yellow flower heads. It mainly grows in dry areas within temperate coniferous forests and is pollinated by various insects. Threats to this species include habitat fragmentation, fire suppression, and competition from invasive species. Efforts are being made by government agencies to conserve this species, including experimental thinning of the forest to improve its condition.
