Encelia californica, also known as California brittlebush, is a flowering plant in the Asteraceae family. It is native to southern California and northern Baja California, and can be found in coastal sage and chaparral plant communities. This bushy shrub can reach up to 150 cm in height and has thin branches with rounded diamond-shaped leaves. Its bright yellow daisy-like flowers bloom from February to June and attract various insects. It is also an important host plant for the Bay checkerspot butterfly. Encelia californica is commonly used in ornamental and native plant gardens due to its drought tolerance and attractive appearance, but it is not frost tolerant and requires full sun.
