Echinacea atrorubens, also known as the Topeka purple coneflower, is a perennial herb found in eastern Kansas, Oklahoma, and eastern Texas in the United States. It grows in dry soils near limestone or sandstone outcroppings and prairies. The plant can reach up to 90 centimeters in height and has hairy stems and foliage. Its basal leaves are typically linear or lanceolate in shape and have entire margins. The plant flowers in late spring, with a single flower head on each stem. The flower heads have purple or occasionally pink or white ray flowers and a conic disc with greenish to pink or purple lobes. The plant has 11 chromosomes and its seeds are tan and finely tuberculate.
