Commidendrum robustum, also known as the Saint Helena gumwood, is a tree species that is native to Saint Helena, Ascension, and Tristan da Cunha. It used to be a very common tree on the island of Saint Helena, but is now considered rare. It is a small tree, reaching heights of 7-8 meters, and was heavily harvested for fuel during the early years of English settlement on the island. The tree has also given its name to certain places on the island. It is part of the endemic genus Commidendrum and is closely related to the Melanodendron integrifolium, or Black cabbage tree, which also grows on Saint Helena. These two species are believed to have evolved from a common ancestor. Today, the closest relatives of the Saint Helena gumwood are found in South Africa, in the Felicia Cass. and Amellus L. shrub genera.
