Cyanella hyacinthoides, also known as "lady's hand" or "Raaptoluintjie", is a cormous annual or perennial herb native to the western parts of South Africa. It has a basal rosette with slender, wavy-margined leaves and produces mauve, pink, purple, or blue flowers with a mild scent in the spring. This plant is found in the Cape region of South Africa, particularly in loamy soil on clay and granite slopes. It is also found in the Namaqualand and Overberg regions, and has been naturalized in Western Australia. The bulb of this plant is edible when cooked and can serve as a substitute for onions. It can tolerate drought but is susceptible to frost.
