Stelis gracilis is a species of leach orchid that belongs to the genus Stelis, one of the largest genera in the orchid family. It has greenish-white flowers and is found in tropical rainforests in North and Central America. This rare orchid was first described by American botanist Oakes Ames in 1908. It has small, erect stems and blooms in the spring and summer. The flowers are photosensitive and only open in sunlight. The plant is named after the Greek word for "mistletoe" due to its resemblance to the parasitic plant. It is mostly found in countries such as Mexico, Belize, and Panama, and requires cool to intermediate temperatures and high humidity for cultivation. Stelis gracilis is not commonly found in cultivation, but with proper care, it can live for several years.
