Erycina pusilla is a tiny orchid species from the Orchidaceae family, native to Mexico, Belize, Central America, South America, and Trinidad. It has lanceolate leaves arranged in a fan and produces small yellow flowers in the fall to spring. Unlike other similar orchids, it does not develop folded leaves or storage organs. It has a short life cycle of about 17 months and can reach adulthood in just one season. E. pusilla is also known as the "tiny psygmorchis" due to its miniature size. It has been used in scientific research due to its small size and short life cycle, making it a promising model for studying orchids. It also has medical applications and can be found in humid forests in the neotropical region. The genome of E. pusilla has been sequenced and it has been found to have 28 MADS-box genes, which play a role in plant growth and development.
