Epidendrum lacustre, also known as the "lake Epidendrum," is a type of orchid that can be found in the cloud forests and rainforests of several South American countries. It grows at altitudes between 1.2 and 2.5 kilometers and can be found growing on both trees and rocks. This species was first discovered in a Venezuelan marsh at an altitude of 2.4 kilometers, where it was growing on half-submerged rotten trees. The plant has been classified in the subgenus E. subg. Spathium and has unswollen stems covered in sheathes with distichous leaves. The stems can grow up to 1.2 meters tall and have broad, obtuse leaves. The flowers of E. lacustre are large, with a diameter of up to 8 centimeters, and grow on a peduncle that emerges from a double spathe. The sepals and petals are green and linear with pointed tips, while the lip is white and either undivided or slightly divided into three lobes. The callus, located just beyond the column, consists of two pointed lumps separated by a raised keel.
