Epidendrum hemiscleria is a type of orchid that grows in the tropical cloud forests of Ecuador and Peru at high altitudes. Its stems can reach up to 1 meter in length and may branch in the middle. The plant has narrow, leathery leaves and produces compact racemes of bright orange flowers. The flowers have three erect, concave sepals and a linear lip without lobes. This orchid was originally placed in a separate genus due to its unique nodding stems, but it is now classified in the subgenus E. subg. Amphiglottium. There is some debate about the placement of this species within the subgenus, with some experts considering it to be part of E. sect. Holochila and others placing it in E. sect. Schistochila.
