Epidendrum geniculatum is a deciduous orchid found in Brazil at elevations between 300-800m. It was first described in 1882 by João Barbosa Rodrigues, but was later confused with another orchid species described by Joseph Dalton Hooker in 1890. The stems of this orchid are flattened and the leaves drop before the seed capsule matures. The flowers bloom in winter and early spring and can range in color from light yellow to lavender. The sepals are longer and wider than the lateral petals, and the lip has a keel in front of the column. This species is similar to E. caparaoense and E. hololeucum.
