Corallorhiza odontorhiza, also known as fall coral-root or small-flowered coral-root, is a non-photosynthetic orchid species found in eastern and central United States, as well as Mexico, Central America, Quebec, and Ontario. It relies on fungi in the soil for nutrients and has yellow to brown stems and no leaves. The flowers are typically reddish-purple with a white lip and can be found from August to October. There are three recognized infraspecific taxa, including var. odontorhiza, var. pringlei, and var. pringlei f. radia. These variations differ in their flower structure and pollination methods. Var. odontorhiza has closed or slightly open flowers that self-pollinate, while var. pringlei has open flowers that are pollinated by external pollinators. Var. pringlei f. radia is a rare form found in southern Mexico, Guatemala, and El Salvador, with completely closed and peloric flowers.
