Corallorhiza maculata, also known as spotted coralroot, is a type of orchid found in North America. It has three varieties and can be found in Mexico, Guatemala, Canada, and much of the western and northern United States. This orchid grows in montane woodlands and is unique in that it is a myco-heterotroph, meaning it obtains energy by parasitizing fungi. Its stem is usually red or brown and lacks leaves and green tissues. The flowers are small and have dark red or brown sepals, reddish side petals, and a bright white lip with red spots. Some varieties may have a plain white lip. The orchid has been used by Native American groups for medicinal purposes and is the subject of a poem by Robert Frost.
