Calochilus robertsonii, also known as the purple beard orchid or purplish beard orchid, is a species of orchid native to Australia and New Zealand. It has a single dark green leaf and can produce up to nine green to brown flowers with reddish or purplish stripes. The labellum, or lip, of the flower has a glossy purple, mauve, or bronze-colored beard with a distinct ridge between the "eye" spots. This terrestrial plant is a perennial herb with an underground tuber and typically blooms from August to early December. It was first described in 1873 by George Bentham and is named after John George Robertson, a collector of the type specimen. The purplish beard orchid is widespread and common in eastern Australia, found in a variety of habitats from heath to forest and scrubland. It is also found in New Zealand, primarily on the North Island.
