Crocus flavus, also known as yellow crocus, Dutch yellow crocus, or snow crocus, is a species of flowering plant in the iris family. It is native to Greece, former Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Romania, and northwestern Turkey, and has bright orange-yellow fragrant flowers. This small crocus grows wild on slopes and is often used as an ornamental plant. Its Latin name, flavus, means "yellow." The plant has a globe-shaped corm and a chromosome count of 2N=8 with 11 B-chromosomes. There are several subspecies, including Crocus flavus subsp. dissectus, Crocus flavus subsp. flavus, and Crocus flavus subsp. sarichinarensis. The latter has received the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Crocus flavus is easy to grow in gardens and has naturalized in some areas, such as Arkansas in the United States. Most garden plants are triploids and do not produce seeds, so they are propagated vegetatively. The species has been hybridized with other crocus species to create various cultivars, such as Crocus flavus 'Grosser Gelber' with large orange-yellow
