Astroloba spiralis is a small succulent plant that is native to the southern Karoo regions of South Africa. It belongs to the Astroloba genus and can be found in the Western and Eastern Cape Provinces. This compact plant has upright stems covered in blue-green to grey pointed leaves that grow in a spiral pattern. It produces wrinkled flowers in autumn and is often confused with its close relative, Astroloba herrei. However, Astroloba spiralis can be distinguished by its tetraploid genetic makeup and more erect leaves. This plant is found in the Little Karoo region, extending from the Eastern Cape Great Karoo to Oudtschoorn and Calitzdorp in the Western Cape. It is also known as Astroloba spirella in the latter region. Further information and images of Astroloba spiralis can be found on various websites, including the SANBI redlist.
