The fez aloe, also known as Aloe peglerae, is a small, stemless succulent plant native to South Africa. It is classified as an endangered species and is listed on Appendix II of CITES, which provides special trade protections to prevent further endangerment of the wild population. The plant has a unique appearance, with glaucous leaves that form a compact, spherical rosette. It produces a single cylindrical spike with deep purple filaments in July and August. The species is named after Alice Marguerite Pegler, a botanist and naturalist, and is known to form natural hybrids with other aloe species. It is only found in a limited range in South Africa and is rapidly declining due to habitat destruction and illegal collecting.
