Aloe pearsonii, also known as Pearson's Aloe, is a unique and rare species of aloe that is native to the arid Richtersveld region on the border of South Africa and Namibia. It is part of a group of "Creeping Aloes" and "Climbing Aloes" and is considered a "missing-link" between the two. The plant has four rows of thick, re-curved leaves that turn blue-green when watered. It blooms in the summer with bright red or yellow flowers and is the slowest growing of all aloe species. It is found in sandy patches in the rocky mountains of Richtersveld and is able to survive in extremely dry and hot conditions. Despite its slow growth, some plants have been found to be several hundred years old. Aloe pearsonii is currently classified as Least Concern on the Red list of South African plants.
