Ornithogalum dubium, also known as sun star, star of Bethlehem, or yellow chincherinchee, is a flowering plant native to the Cape Province of South Africa. It is a bulbous perennial that can grow up to 50 cm tall and has yellowish green leaves with ciliate margins. Its flowers, which bloom in winter or spring, are arranged in cylindrical or spherical racemes and can be orange, red, yellow, or white with a green or brown center. This plant requires well-drained soil and should be grown in a sheltered, sunny spot. It is toxic if ingested and can cause irritation from its leaves. Ornithogalum dubium has been recognized by the Royal Horticultural Society with an Award of Garden Merit.
