Eucomis schijffii is a small bulbous flowering plant native to the Cape Provinces, KwaZulu-Natal and Lesotho. It grows to 10-15 cm tall and has reddish purple flowers arranged in a spike topped by a head of green leaflike bracts. It is cultivated as an ornamental plant and can be grown successfully outside in areas where frosts are not too severe. It is particularly suited to rock gardens or containers. It can be propagated from seed or leaf cuttings.
