Dracaena braunii is a flowering plant in the Asparagaceae family, named after German collector Johannes M. Braun. However, most plants sold under this name are actually Dracaena sanderiana, which has longer flowers and less congested leaves. D. braunii is a short-stemmed herb that forms dense carpets and can also grow into dwarf shrubs. Its leaves are green and shiny on top, with a cuneate base and a descending tip. The inflorescence is green with purple tones and can reach up to 30 cm in length. The flowers are white to cream with pinkish-purple lobes and a faint sweet smell. The fruits are orange to red and have 1-3 lobes. D. braunii is native to Cameroon, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, and the Republic of the Congo, and is typically found in coastal forests and the transition between mangrove and savannah. It can tolerate sea spray and grows in shady areas with laterite or sandy soil.
