Ammocharis longifolia is a unique species of bulbous plant in the Amaryllidaceae family. It is the only species in its monotypic genus, Cybistetes. This perennial geophyte has large bulbs, prostrate leaves, and a 13-90 flowered inflorescence. Its flowers are funnel-shaped and can range from ivory to pale or dark pink. The plant is distinguished by its zygomorphic flowers and its unique seed dispersal mechanism, where the fruiting head is blown by the wind and tumbles away. It was first described by Linnaeus in 1753 and has had a complicated taxonomic history, being placed in different genera such as Crinum and Brunsvigia. In 2007, it was determined that Cybistetes longifolia is actually a synonym for Ammocharis longifolia and is now treated as such. It is found in southern Namibia and western Cape Province, in the extreme western region of winter rainfall in southern Africa.
