Pritchardia pacifica, also known as the Fiji fan palm, is a palm tree species native to Tonga, but also found in Fiji, Samoa, and the Marquesas. It can reach a height of 15 meters and has a smooth, grayish tan trunk and large, flat leaves with stiff-tipped segments. It produces small, shiny dark brown to purplish black fruits. This species is considered a host for a plant disease called Lethal Yellowing. In Fiji, the leaves were traditionally used as fans and umbrellas by chiefs, and the trunk was used for construction. It is popular among palm enthusiasts for cultivation and is grown as an ornamental plant throughout the Pacific. It can tolerate coastal spray and is easy to grow from fresh seeds in well-drained soil with plenty of light.
