Coccothrinax alta, also known as palma plateada, palma de abanico, or Tyre palm, is a fan palm native to Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. It can reach heights of 2-6 meters, with some individuals growing up to 11 meters. The flowers are light yellow and the fruit turns purple-black when ripe. This palm is typically found at lower elevations, up to 350 meters above sea level, on limestone and volcanic substrates. It has been recorded in various locations in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. While some experts consider it to be a distinct species due to its shorter trunk, fewer stamens, and smaller fruit, others consider it to be a synonym of Coccothrinax barbadensis.
