Clinosperma bractealis is a unique species of palm tree that is native to the Island of New Caledonia in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. Its name is derived from Greek and Latin words that describe its slanted seeds and bract-covered inflorescence. This solitary-trunked palm can grow up to 15 meters tall and has a distinct triangle-shaped crownshaft covered in a hairy tomentum and white wax. Its leaves are pinnate and light to bright green in color, with an unusual recurving end. The tree produces small, white to yellow flowers on red branches and its fruit ripens from green to black, each containing one light brown seed. Clinosperma bractealis is typically found in rainforests and is well-adapted to growing in schists and serpentine soil.
