Calyptrogyne ghiesbreghtiana, also known as the coligallo palm, is a type of understory palm found in Central America and southern Mexico. It has a stemless or short-stemmed trunk and unique leaves with a forked apex. The flowers of this palm are pollinated by bats and are a favorite food for katydids. Interestingly, the inflorescences of this palm also host a species of mite that uses flower-visiting bats as a mode of transportation. There are four recognized subspecies of this palm, each with its own distinct characteristics.
