Arenga microcarpa, also known as sagu or Sagu Baruk, is a palm tree that is native to the Moluccas and Papua New Guinea, but can also be found in northern Australia and Indonesia. It grows up to 7 meters tall and has dark green leaves with a whitish underside and small red fruit. This palm is commonly cultivated on the Talaud and Sangihe Islands for its starchy pith, which is used to make Sagu flour. In fact, Sagu flour is the main source of food for 88% of the population on Sangihe Island.
