The root was also eaten, either raw or cooked. Lomatium ambiguum is a perennial herb of the Apiaceae family native to the northwestern United States and British Columbia. It has divided leaves and stems that can be slightly purple, growing up to 24 cm tall. It blooms yellow flowers in compound umbels from late April to June. Native Americans used the leaves and flowers to flavor meats, stews and salads, and brewed a tea from them to treat common colds and sore throats. The root was also eaten raw or cooked.
