The seeds have a flavor similar to fenugreek or cumin and can be used as a spice.
Ligusticum scoticum, also known as Scots lovage or Scottish licorice-root, is a perennial flowering plant found near the coasts of northern Europe and north-eastern North America. It grows up to 60 centimetres tall and is closely related to Ligusticum hultenii. The plant is edible and has a flavor similar to parsley, celery, fenugreek, or cumin. It is primarily found in Arctic regions and is tolerant of salt spray, but cannot tolerate grazing. It is visited by pollinators and was first described by Carl Linnaeus in 1753. The plant has been used for nutrition and to combat scurvy, with its leaves and stalks being edible and containing vitamins A and C. The seeds can also be used as a spice.

Germination/Propagation Top
Suggest a correction or add new data!Start at 4°C for 3 months, then warm to 20°C for another 3 months. |
Sow seeds immediately as their viability decreases rapidly, or they best germinate when fresh. If stored, seeds might need temperature cycling and patience to germinate. |
