Zostera capensis is a species of dwarf eelgrass found along the African coast in the Indian and Atlantic oceans. It is the dominant seagrass species in South Africa and is also present in other countries such as Mozambique. However, it is estimated to occupy less than 2000 km² in total. This species faces threats from human activities such as nutrient enrichment, flooding, pollution, and sedimentation. In Mozambique, shellfish harvesting has been identified as a major threat. Despite its importance as a keystone species, Z. capensis is poorly protected and highly fragmented. This section is currently empty and needs more information.
