Thalassodendron ciliatum, also known as the sickle-leaved cymodocea, is a seagrass species found in the Indo-Pacific region. It has a wide distribution but its abundance varies throughout its range. This fast-growing seagrass is typically found in the upper part of the sublittoral zone, forming dense meadows on sandy bottoms, coral reefs, and sand-covered rocks. However, it is slow to re-colonize and is susceptible to intense grazing by sea urchins. Human activities such as coastal development, pollution, and seaweed farming also pose a threat to this species. Thalassodendron ciliatum has red or red-striped leaves that are linear and falcate in shape. Its rhizome is thick and well-developed, with one to two stems present at every fourth internode. The roots occur in groups and range from slightly to highly branched.
