Sagittaria australis, also known as the Appalachian arrowhead or longbeak arrowhead, is a plant species found in the eastern United States. It can be found in states such as Louisiana, Iowa, New York, and Florida, with the majority of its distribution between New Jersey and Mississippi. This plant grows in wet areas, such as swamps and along the edges of lakes and ponds. It is sometimes used as an ornamental plant in aquariums or garden ponds. Sagittaria australis is a perennial herb that can reach up to 130 cm (50 inches) in height. It is unique within its genus due to its 5-winged petiole. The flowers of this plant are white and can reach up to 3 cm (1.2 inches) in diameter. They produce an achene with a curved beak.
