Tripidium bengalense, also known as munj sweetcane, baruwa sugarcane or baruwa grass, is a small species of sugarcane bamboo grass native to Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Northern India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Myanmar. It grows 2-3 feet in height and is colored pinkish-green. It is a food source for animals such as the Indian rhinoceros and the pygmy hog. It is used for thatching roofs, making baskets, and making ropes. It is also used to stabilize erosion-prone rugged slopes and to convert them into biologically productive sites of high socio-economic value.
