Orcuttia pilosa, also known as hairy Orcutt grass, is a rare species of grass found only in the Central Valley of California. It grows in vernal pools, a type of habitat that is becoming increasingly scarce. Due to human alterations to the land, many populations of this grass have disappeared, leading to its listing as an endangered species in 1997. At that time, there were only 25 known populations remaining, with only 12 of them being stable. This small, densely hairy annual grass forms tufts up to 20 centimeters tall and has a unique inflorescence of crowded, hairy spikelets.
