Schoenoplectus subterminalis, also known as water bulrush, is a flowering plant found in North America. It is commonly found in the northeastern US, eastern Canada, and the Great Lakes region, as well as in the mountains of the West. This plant grows in moist and wet habitats, often in shallow water. It has long, narrow stems and can reach over one meter in length. The plant has a rhizome and sometimes produces tubers. Its inflorescence is a single cone-shaped spikelet at the end of the stem, accompanied by a stiff bract. When growing in water, only the inflorescence and leaf blade tips are visible above the surface.
