Theobroma bicolor, also known as the mocambo tree, is a species of tree in the Malvaceae family found in Central and South America. It is closely related to the cocoa tree and was historically cultivated by the Aztecs for chocolate production. The tree can grow up to 30 meters tall and produces fruit from March to November. Its seeds are edible and high in nutrients, similar to those of the cocoa tree. The fruit naturally falls from the tree when ripe and is harvested from the ground. The tree is also used for its seed pods, which can be used as containers, and its pulp, which has a sweet taste. However, the tree is susceptible to pests, including a fungus that causes "witch's broom disease".
