Stereospermum tetragonum, also known as the yellow snake tree, is a tall tree with a trunk diameter of 15-25 cm and large leaves measuring 25-50 cm. Its leaflets are long and elliptic, with 3-6 on each side of the midrib. The tree produces large, pale yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers in panicles. The flowers have a slightly curved shape, with a 2-lobed upper lip and a 3-lobed lower lip. The fruit is long, 4-angular, and slightly curved, with a diameter of about 1 cm. This tree is commonly found in India, Myanmar, and Sri Lanka, particularly in moist deciduous forests and occasionally in openings or margins of evergreen forests up to 1200 m. In Vietnam, it is known as quao núi and its young leaves are consumed as a vegetable in the Central Highlands region. Its common name, snake tree, may be derived from the appearance of its fruit.
