Tagetes lemmonii, also known as Lemmon's marigold, is a shrubby plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is native to northwestern Mexico and southern Arizona. This plant can grow up to 8 feet tall and has pinnately compound leaves with lance-shaped leaflets. It produces small flower heads with both ray and disc florets and can be found in woodlands, cliffs, and moist areas. The species is named after John Gill Lemmon, the husband of American botanist Sarah Plummer Lemmon. It is commonly grown in California gardens due to its drought tolerance and ability to withstand light frosts. Lemmon's marigold blooms from fall to spring and has a pungent scent when disturbed.
