Gazania lichtensteinii, also known as "yellow calendula," is a flower native to South Africa and Namibia. It is listed as "safe" on the SANBI Red List. This annual plant can grow up to 20 cm in height and has yellow flowers that are 4 cm in diameter. It is distinguished by its smooth involucres and toothed leaves with a woolly underside. It is commonly found in the Succulent Karoo region and its seeds are dispersed by the wind. Young seedlings thrive in rough, barren areas with little competition from other plants, although they are often eaten by ostriches.
